Fun trips, bachelorette parties, big celebrations, etc. - they're all an important part of a balanced, full life! They can leave our souls feeling full buuuut our bodies a bit run down.
Instead of going full force into some quick-fix "detox" to reset, I encourage you to consider these tips and strategies below instead. A more gentle, strategic, and balanced approach is ALWAYS what works best in the long run!
Nourish, Don't Punish
The absolute WORST way to recover is by overcompensating by eating too little or “super clean” in order to make up for what you consumed. Instead, focus on what you can ADD IN to your diet - fiber rich veggies, as many colors as possible, tons of greens, whole, unprocessed foods, etc.
Support Your Body's Detox Systems
Your body already has processes in place to help you remove toxins, but there are indeed ways to support this. Sweat, hydrate, and include certain liver-supporting foods like asparagus, broccoli, onions, garlic, turmeric, green tea, beets, cabbage, etc. into your diet.
Move Your Body Gently
Avoid putting too much stress on your body OR feel the need to overexercise in order to “undo” a big weekend. While exercise CAN be a great way to improve a hangover, get a good, detoxifying sweat in, and improve brain fog, it should be done mindfully.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
This is logical, but it’s soooo important. Especially when alcohol and travel are involved, amp up the water intake. Bonus points for adding some electrolytes or anything to make it tastier like lemon or cucumber.
Make Sleep a Top Priority
Sleep is when your body repairs itself, and alcohol and staying up later than normal both disrupt your body’s circadian rhythm and quality of sleep. Make it a point to get to bed at least 30 minutes earlier to help you replenish.
Use Supplements to Your Advantage
I personally love the Xymogen Liver Protect supplement daily, but especially when I’m drinking and needing some extra support. It includes the amino acid N-acetyl-L-cysteine, a key component of glutathione—a tripeptide that plays a significant role in detoxification well as lpha-lipoic acid, milk thistle extract, thistle, and selenium.
Remind Yourself That Experiences Feed the Soul
Some foods feed the body, some feed the soul. There is NO point in beating yourself up for enjoying life and embracing experiences. Rather, this is necessary to a truly balanced, fulfilled, well-rounded approach to wellness in my opinion!
Okay, you're ready to hit the ground running! Keep these in your back pocket for all of your upcoming travels and festivities, and as always, let me know how I can support you further.
