Anxiety & supplements - where do I begin? This is a question I'm often asked by both my health coaching clients and my little social media fam, so let's five in!
First, I always think it's incredibly important to remind yourself that supplements aren't a cure-all. I always encourage anyone (myself included) to begin with diet & lifestyle factors first.
When it comes to anxiety specifically, implementing mindfulness practices like meditation & journaling as well as focussing on sleep, a well-balanced diet & reducing caffeine intake can all make a powerful impact on reducing stress.
Supplements can come in handy when you need a little EXTRA support or help filling in the gaps.

Probiotics
Let's start with probiotics. You might be questioning what the heck the gut has to do with stress, to which I answer: EVERYTHING!
I cannot harp enough on the fact that the Brain/Gut Connection is perhaps one of the most important factors in our health. The gut & the brain are intrinsically linked, as they're constantly sending messages back & forth that impact & regulate one another.
Thus, we can actually improve our mental state by starting in the gut. And one (of many) factors in gut health is probiotics. Not all probiotics are created the same (it's a get-what-you-pay-for-world), so here are a few of my personal favorite, trusted brands:

Magnesium
I've taken magnesium on & off over the years, & I can truly say that incorporating it back into my supplement routine makes a major difference!
Magnesium is an incredible mineral as it regulates the activity of more stimulating neurotransmitters & hormones (like cortisol) & binds to calming receptors, helping to promote a more peaceful, restful state.
When buying, make sure you're looking for the RIGHT type of magnesium, though. It comes in many forms - citrate, glycinate, oxide & many more. For stress/anxiety specifically, I recommend (per my own doctor's suggestion) magnesium l-threonate.
CBD
Next, let's chat CBD! To be honest, I feel like I've tried it ALL when it comes to CBD. With so many brands & types out there, it can be incredibly overwhelming.
When I first tried the Beam Dream powder, I kid you not, my life was changed. This is the only CBD product I've tried & really FELT the difference. It includes nano hemp CBD plus other relaxation-promoting ingredients like reishi mushroom, magnesium, l-theanine & melatonin to help you fall & stay asleep.
I use this on nights that I really need a deep sleep or had a stressful day & need help winding down.
Omega-3s
Lastly, let's discuss omega-3s! Omega-3 fatty acids play an important role in body & brain but are something we cannot produce ourselves, thus we must obtain them through our diet.
Most of us aren't consuming adequate amounts of omega-3s (found in highest concentrations in fatty fish & nuts/seeds like walnuts, flax seeds, chia seeds, etc.). Omega-3s help protect us against many illnesses including cancer, inflammation-related diseases & mental health disorders like depression, anxiety & ADHD.
Studies have SHOWN that supplementing with omega-3s can help easy anxiety symptoms, so I firmly believe this can be a helpful addition to one's routine as well!
